Malga Ciapela

2nd September 2015

Flying into Venice after a short if bumpy flight from Gatwick, I figured that we were a couple of hours out from the Dolomite. In fact it is a bit further taking more like 3 hours and given that we had never been in the area before we found ourselves running out of light and still an hour away from Canazei.

This actually worked in our favour in the end because we found a campsite on the edge of Malga Ciapela a small village nesttled below the intimidating walls of Marmolada.

We tend to have a few ‘requirements’ when we are camping. The minimum is a bench of some sort where we can brew up and cook. Even better is a pagoda or shelter. Our first site offered the former, but given the amazing location and quite remarkable facilities this was more than enough. The shower and toilet block set a standard for this trip which was maintained throughout. English campsites take note!
